I happily welcome commissions for portraits of your animals (of all types) and human family members. I am flexible and versatile so feel free to bring me your ideas for art that showcases your house, building, barn, land, tack and equipment. My goal is to create an heirloom artwork capturing what is most important in your life. When creating your portrait, I work from photographs. I can take these for you, or I can give you some guidelines for selecting or taking your own. It is helpful, but not necessary, for me to meet any animals or person to be included in the work. Because of copyright laws, photographs taken by a professional photographer or studio cannot be used without the photographer's written release. I use only the highest quality, archival materials and techniques in the creation of your portrait. Materials such as paints with lightfast pigments, acid-free paper, and fine linen canvas help to ensure that the portrait I create for you will last. I work in graphite pencil on paper (black and white images) or heat-set artist oils on canvas for full color art work. Genesis Artist Colors™ Heat-Set Artist Oils, which I prefer, are considered to have strong archival qualities. Genesis selects pigments with very high lightfastness ratings to guard against fading. The price for an original portrait depends on variables such as the size, number of subjects, pose, and the detail of the background. The estimates below do not include sales tax, travel/photography fees, or matting and framing. Here are examples of my pricing for a commission portrait: An 8" x 10" head-and-shoulders, single-subject portrait with a simple background would be about $750.00. The same portrait in a 16" x 20" size would be about $1,200.00. Multiple-subject or full-body portraits or portraits with highly detailed backgrounds generally cost more. Adding a second subject, for example, would increase the price by approximately 50%.
