At the recent annual western States Horse Expo held June 11–13, 2004 at Cal Expo in Sacramento, well-known veterinarian Dr. Robert M. Miller was recognized for his lifetime contribution to the horse industry. Dr. Miller is best known for developing a special program for imprinting foals at birth. This system facilitates the ease of handling and training the horse throughout its life.
The Horse Expo purchased an art work by local artist, Stacy Maeda, to present to Dr. Miller at a special ceremony held during the event. The oil painting selected was part of the Art Show and Sale at the Horse Expo and depicts a dark horse looking back over its shoulder ("Winter Watch").
Stacy Maeda is a local artist from Wilton who specializes in animal art including horses, dogs and cats. She is known for her detailed, true-to-life renderings in oils and graphite pencil.
The Western States Horse Expo is an annual event held in June which hosts a horse auction, clinics by world-famous horsemen, demonstrations featuring all equine breeds and disciplines, a huge vendor market, and the art show and sale.
